This is what happened when Lorraine and Dave took Rum and Raisin to their new home posted to-day by Heather one of Kats&Kits helpers.
Lorraine and Dave were due to home Rum & Raisin at 7pm on Friday evening. Round about 6.10pm, I received a phone call from another rescue. Being full to bursting point, they were seeking help with a mum and litter of 4 kittens living under a hedge in the grounds of Pewsey Catholic Church. By coincidence, the church is very close to where Lorraine was homing Rum & Raisin! I immediately phoned Lorraine, who was just getting ready to leave. Obviously, she went prepared with food and cat baskets, just in case. A Mrs. Mercer had been feeding the mother cat for several weeks, but hadn't realised she had a litter of kittens, until she was told by a child that she had seen the mother carrying a kitten. It seems the mother had moved her babies into this new spot. We've no idea where they came from originally. I gather Mrs Mercer had made enquiries and asked at the local Veterinary Practice. An hour or so later Lorraine phoned me to say that before dealing with the paperwork for Rum & Raisin's adoption, she and Dave had walked the few steps along to the church to meet Mrs. Mercer. Apparently, Dave was the hero of the day, and they managed to catch all five. Somewhat dishevelled, I gather, they returned to complete Rum & Raisin's adoption. Unfortunately for Dave & Lorraine, this meant a slight change of plan for their supper. No tasty pub meal I'm afraid. A quick stop for a take-away and back to Keevil to settle the new family. Duly named, Cathy and her babies settled straight away and tucked into their food. This delightful mother has done a good job in raising her little ones. Apart from a few ticks between them they appear to be well rounded and in excellent health. Our thanks to Mrs. Mercer whose kindness to Cathy is one of the reasons mum and kittens are in such good condition. We are pleased to say that the kittens have now got good homes, but we would like a nice home for pretty black and white Cathy. 10 July 2007 |
About Kats & Kits:Kats & Kits is a long established cat sanctuary based in the depth of the UK's mystical Wiltshire countryside, on the edge of Salisbury Plain, near the white horses of Alton Barnes and Westbury. Run by a small dedicated team we aim to provide a home to rescued cats where re-homing is not a viable option. This blog documents the daily challenges the group has overcome since 1994 to provide care and shelter for abandonded, stray and unwanted cats.
