Eureka, Einstein is alive and well!

We have had very good news to day. Einstein the young black cat that I reported missing last weekend has been found. He was in a garden about a quarter of a mile away from where he went missing, and was recognised by the house owner after she had read about him in the newspaper. He was happy to go into her house and have a good feed until his very relieved owners came to fetch him.

It goes to show, if your pet goes missing the more publicity you get the better, newspapers, posters, flyers and word of mouth, the more people who know the better, and of course remember to ring the vets and rescues

*Yes we know Archimedes purportedly said "Eureka" – but we can find no evidence to suggest that Einstein didn’t. However, he did make the following cat related analogy when trying to explain the radio…

"You see, wire telegraph is a kind of a very, very long cat. You pull his tail in New York and his head is meowing in Los Angeles. Do you understand this? And radio operates exactly the same way: you send signals here, they receive them there. The only difference is that there is no cat."

Lost in Devizes

Cats are supposed to have nine lives, well a small black cat wearing a gold coloured collar with a magnet, answering to the name Einstein is certainly using up some of his. Living in the Nursteed Rd area he stowed away in his owner’s van when he went to the re-cycling centre at the Hopton Industrial Estate, there, when the van doors were opened he jumped out and ran away. Despite two weeks of searching he has not been found.

If you live or work in this area, please keep an eye out for him and ring one of the numbers below if you see him.

From Judth..

Thank you Nita for your kind words of farewell. I am going to find it very difficult to say goodbye to all the beautiful cats, Lorraine and Dave and all the wonderful helpers whom I regard as very good friends. It has been a privilege and a pleasure to work with such dedicated people and I will miss the friendship of you all.

Love to you all from Judith (and David, Hadji and Basil)

A Warm Welcome to 2007

Here at Kats&Kits the New Year has arrived with torrential rain and gale force winds. Situated as we are on the edge of the south west of England we catch every low pressure system that sweeps in from the Atlantic. When you live on a small island you expect the weather to change from day to day and to be different within relatively short distances, but in the last few years we have seen our weather patterns changing quite dramatically. Is this global warming? I am not expert enough to give an opinion, all I know is the weather this winter is mostly wild, wet and very mild and this will help with the heating bill. I am posting a photograph taken some years again when it was usual to see snow fall a couple of times during the winter. I hope I am not tempting fate, because though it looks pretty it makes it difficult for the helpers to get to the rescue every day.

This is a good opportunity to thank everyone who sent us donations this Christmas. They are very gratefully received and very carefully spent. Our thanks to you all.

If you want a bargain after an expensive Christmas we have a Jumble Sale on

Saturday January 27th, 10 am at Devizes Scout Hall, Southbroom Rd. Devizes.

About Kats & Kits:

Kats & Kits is a long established cat sanctuary based in the depth of the UK's mystical Wiltshire countryside, on the edge of Salisbury Plain, near the white horses of Alton Barnes and Westbury.

Run by a small dedicated team we aim to provide a home to rescued cats where re-homing is not a viable option.

This blog documents the daily challenges the group has overcome since 1994 to provide care and shelter for abandonded, stray and unwanted cats.
