Character Cats |
25 May 2007I promised an update on Moses and Luke, the two cats that had been shut in with the reclusive lady for eight years. They are making slow progress and at last are leaving their beds and sitting in the out side pen. Everything is very strange and frightening for them. They have never seen other animals and very few people, and certainly not felt fresh air. The last few years with their elderly owner have been difficult for them and it will take time to build up their trust. Three more new born kittens have joined the Kats&Kits nursery this week. They were found in a textile skip when the lorry had finished its collections, so we have no idea where they came from. Nor do we know if they were born there or someone dumped them. Their mother must have been frantic when she saw that they had gone. Despite being cold and hungry they are doing well. More pictures soon! 11 May 2007
Once again I am on my soapbox. At this time of year there will be lots of new kittens. If you are going give one or maybe two a good home, please make sure they are booked into the vets for neutering by the time they are six months old. You will have contented, home loving cats and will not add to the huge population of stray cats. Several of the big charities will give financial help if necessary. Your vet will also have information about feeding, vaccination etc. which can be very helpful if you are a first time owner.
These kittens were found by a farmer in the bucket of his tractor, he waited to see if the mother returned, but when she didn’t and the kittens were getting cold and hungry he decided to get help. Here they are at Kats&Kits being hand fed every few hours with special kitten formula and happily they seem to be thriving. I am not so sure about Lorraine though, she has to get up throughout the night to feed them. We said a very sad farewell to Domino last week. He was a large black and white tom who came to us four and a half years ago. He was much loved by us all and was Lorraine’s constant companion. We knew only a little about his background, but somewhere there must have been a bad experience with a dog for he hated them with a vengeance. Canine visits to Ks&Ks were strictly supervised, as Domino would actively seek a confrontation with the poor unsuspecting dog, who usually looked amazed and beat a hasty retreat. We did not know his age but he had been unwell for some weeks and last week he had to be put to sleep. We will all miss you Domino. |
About Kats & Kits:Kats & Kits is a long established cat sanctuary based in the depth of the UK's mystical Wiltshire countryside, on the edge of Salisbury Plain, near the white horses of Alton Barnes and Westbury. Run by a small dedicated team we aim to provide a home to rescued cats where re-homing is not a viable option. This blog documents the daily challenges the group has overcome since 1994 to provide care and shelter for abandonded, stray and unwanted cats.
